Notice of Eligibility (NoE) and oral exams guidance
When you have accrued sufficient sea time to sit an oral exam with the MCA, you are required to apply for a Notice of Eligibility (NoE).
Please visit our website for further details.
Prerequisites
If you hold engineering qualifications (HNC, HND, or equivalent, or degree) completed in the UK or an EU state, you may apply for an exemption form for the IAMI academic subjects (see MIN 511 for further information). If your qualifications meet the requirements for this programme, you must apply for a Letter of Initial Assessment and an MNTB Training Record Book. You will also need to send us a completed application form and a full copy of your degree and transcript. If your degree was completed outside of the UK, you must send a copy of your NARIC.
Before starting the classroom phase of this programme with us, you must pass the initial four STCW basic safety training courses. You must then complete a minimum of eight months' sea service within 12 months' industrial experience. This must also include six months' engine room watchkeeping duties. You must also hold a medical fitness certificate recognised by the MCA. During the sea service period, you must complete the MNTB Training Record Book to the required standard and complete guided study course material before returning to us.
