We have an opportunity for the right candidate to secure a Marine Manager position with our client on Scotland’s West coast.   

  • Provide professional support to the team for all Marine matters, participating in the formulation of the department strategy, whilst ensuring the safe operation of the company’s vessels.
  • Provide a comprehensive marine management function for the vessels for which you are responsible for and establish a close liaison with the Operations Director / Regional Managers in respect of the operation and positioning of the vessels throughout the network to ensure delivery of a safe and cost effective service.
  • Agree manning levels on the vessels in accordance to MCA regulations, passenger certificates and muster lists.
  • Carryout incident reviews, accident investigations and vessel audits as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Master Mariner with a STCW Class II/2 Master (No limitations) qualifications.
  • Experienced professional with a track record in exercising sound judgement in the fields of business and vessel operations.
  • Trained in incident management / investigation techniques and auditing.

Job Description

As a Marine Manager, you will be responsible for the following:  

  • Liaise with the Operations Director / Regional Managers about the operation and positioning of the vessels throughout the network to ensure delivery of a safe and cost effective service.
  • Undertake annual inspections of each vessel for which responsible and submit comprehensive management reports including recommendations for resolution of problems arising.
  • Responsible for Shipboard Disciplinary matters and issues arising under the Drugs & Alcohol Policy in consultation with the Crew Resource Manager, Technical Manager, Retail Operations Manager and Human Resources Department.
  • Carryout performance appraisals of the senior marine officers onboard the vessels and provide advice and guidance on fleet training requirements in conjunction with the Crew Resource Manager and Technical Managers.
  • Identify and interview suitably qualified and competent Masters and Deck Officers for employment / promotion to appropriate vessels in conjunction with the Crew Resource Manager and Human Resources Department.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation and equipment required for vessel operations is maintained and complies with relevant legislation.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Masters and Charge-hands on marine, legal and professional matters.
  • Advise Technical Managers about deck aspects of overhauls and supervision of MES tests with MCA.
