PORT OPERATIONS MANAGER

Location: Based in Southampton, covering WWL UK ports (including Southampton, Liverpool, Bristol, and Teesport).

Reports To: Head of Europe & RSA Port and Cargo handling

Experience required: Proven experience in ocean shipping, port operations and cargo handling are essential. Time served as port operations manager is preferred

Hours: 9.00am-5.30pm Mon-Fri, however, due to the nature of the business, some work outside of these hours will be required. Therefore a willingness to be flexible is essential.

Salary: Competitive (Based on qualifications and experience) plus benefits package

PROFILE

Our client is looking for a talented and experienced individual, with proven experience in ocean shipping and port operations. The successful candidate will form a central part of the European operations team, where communication and collaboration is essential to successfully manage the operations.

As a proficient leader and manager, the candidate will be able to motivate and negotiate with subcontractors, as well as communicate and meet customers’ requirements. The candidate will also have excellent communication (English) and influencing skills.

DUTIES:

  • Take responsibility for the complete operations, cargo handling and cost efficiencies across the UK.
  • Be an integrated part of a European Operations team both offering and demanding collaborative and motivating behavior.
  • Influence and engage multiple stakeholders to deliver beyond Customer expectations

.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Being an energetic ambassador for the brand and the values it represents
  • Driving efficiency and maximizing the utilization of vessel in the most cost-efficient way.
  • Motivating, inspiring and coaching subcontractors to enhance performance and quality of their services.
  • Plan sequence, supervise and ensure an efficient and optimal cargo operation of vessels in ports of responsibility, with special emphasis on cargo quality, utilization, productivity and costs.
  • Driving operational excellence, customer service and brand standards across your area
  • Challenging the status quo and supporting a culture of continuous improvement and operational efficiency
  • Ambition to continually improve and drive the business forward
  • Comfortable with having several activities on the go, agile and flexible approach
  • Ability to translate the company’s processes and instructions into hands on activities and take the appropriate action when not adhered to.

Work Experience Requirements

All applicants must have previous experience in working on ships.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.

Certificates and Qualifications

Mandatory STCW certificates are required from all applicants.
