Marine Superintendent (Tankers) – Permanent – West Coast, USA – Excellent package

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Marine Superintendent with a strong background in tanker operations. The role is home based on the West Coast, USA ideally California but can consider up to Seattle.

The successful candidate will oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of assigned vessels, ensuring that all marine activities are executed according to industry regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all marine and operational matters related to assigned tanker vessels.
  • Monitor vessel performance to ensure safety, compliance, cost-efficiency, and adherence to voyage schedules.
  • Conduct regular vessel inspections and audits to ensure compliance with company policies, flag state, port state, class, and international regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS).
  • Coordinate with Masters, Chief Engineers, and vessel management teams to resolve technical or operational issues.
  • Support emergency response efforts and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Liaise with clients, charterers, port authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth cargo operations.
  • Assist in vetting inspections, including OCIMF SIRE and RightShip, ensuring vessels meet oil major requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation and execution of dry dockings, repairs, and major maintenance projects.

Experience Required:

  • Previous shore based experience as Marine Superintendent or similar
  • Experience working within a shipping company or ship management office in the United States (preferred)
  • Senior seafaring position (Chief Officer or Master) on oil, product or chemical tankers.
  • USCG license or equivalent international maritime certification preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of tanker operations, international maritime regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with vetting processes and requirements from oil majors.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) knowledge.
