Marine Superintendent – Permanent – Barrow (Hybrid) – Excellent package

This is an excellent opportunity to join a reputable UK based ship management company. The role mainly home based but you must live within a reasonable commute to the Barrow-in-Furness office as there will be regular office and vessel visits.

As Marine Superintendent, you will be responsible for monitoring & setting of policy on Safety, Health and Environmental systems for all vessels managed.

Responsibilities include:

  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the duties required by the position with regards to quality and safety management and current legislation.
  • To advise Technical Superintendents on marine related issues in relation to the operation of all managed vessels.
  • To arrange and carry out regular audits of all facets of shipboard operations. To compile corrective action reports & monitor compliance
  • To perform inquiries and investigate accidents and dangerous occurrences with a drive for reflective learning and improved safety culture
  • To monitor vessels Class and trading certificates to ensure timely renewal and/or survey and inform Technical Superintendents accordingly.
  • To monitor ship’s safety returns, including accident and near-miss reporting.

Experience Required:

  • Hold Chief Mate Unlimited or Master Mariner Unlimited Certificate of Competency, or equivalent Military qualification and experience.
  • Proven seagoing experience at senior level (Tanker experience preferred)
  • Previous shore based experience in a similar role (highly desirable)
  • Experience in the application of Statutory Regulations/Classification.
  • In depth knowledge and application of ISM code & ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 working knowledge.
  • Development and management of Safety Management Systems Vessel audits – both internal and external.
  • ISM Internal Auditor Qualification (desirable)

The successful applicant will be required to pass UK Security Clearance requirements prior to the commencement of employment so you must be eligible & have existing right to work in the UK.
