Permanent/full time role
We are on the lookout for a marine engineer that will be responsible for maintaining our clients fleet of vessels on the River Thames.
Our client is a civil engineering company that offer river, road and rail logistics, they have a fleet of tugs and barges operating on the River Thames and Medway carrying aggregates and spoil in the support of construction projects in London.
They provide marine handling services moving bulk materials and spoil throughout the capital as part of an integrated freight operation.
Their fleet of vessels support major civil engineering projects requiring shallow draft, coastal and sea-going tugs to provide towage for barge transportation
Each day our client can move up to 10,000 Tonnes of bulk cargo by river – equivalent to more than 400 lorries on the road.
Role Responsibility
To maintain the fleet of vessels on the River Thames.
To carry out operational services to ships in a safe and responsible manner.
Be responsible for the safe operation of the vessels and engines, generators and associated machinery and equipment.
Ensure a safe and healthy execution of activities in engine room and to technical equipment.
Monitor, maintain and repair electrical and mechanical systems, installations, and equipment.
Ensure that vessels are in good condition and ready to operate at all times.
Monitor and ensure completion of all deficiencies noted in the planned maintenance system.
Actively participate in shipyard repair, drydocking and maintenance periods.
Monitor fuel oil, lubricating oil and freshwater levels.
Keep engine room journal, maintenance and oil record and inventories status reports and maintain logs for all equipment.
Following statutory and regulatory guidelines as laid down by the Company, MCA and other external bodies, keep all paperwork accurate and up to date.
General servicing and maintenance of all company vessels
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
Be the sole engineer on board from time to time when holiday cover is required
Manage and lead engineers
The Ideal Candidate
A professional and analytical Marine Engineer with a hands-on approach who delivers clear and concise thinking and the ability to interpret data and information prior to recommending and implementing solutions.
Minimum MCA Approved AEC 1 & 2 or 3000GT/less than 9000kw or above
Valid ENG 1
A firm understanding of Flag State & PLA Regulations; ISM Code; MARPOL; Vessel Codes; IMO & statutory regulations and general marine legislation applicable to vessels on the River Thames.
Sea or river going experience required, with preferred experience being onboard river vessels or barges, tugs, workboats
24/7 work ethic
Minimum 5+ years’ experience
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to engage and deal with stakeholders, customers and suppliers and regulatory bodies
Strong administrative/computer skills.

£60K
Pension, company van
Hours/work pattern – Monday – Friday – 10hrs per day (occasional holiday cover) Due to the nature of work, work hours are based on tidal times
28 days holiday
