Technical Compliance Officer (Flag State) – Permanent – London – Excellent package

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established London based Flag State Administration in the capacity of Technical Compliance Officer in the Maritime Affairs department

You will be responsible for important maritime research, review, and preparation of internal briefing papers for the state and stakeholders in an international forum. This role provides the great
opportunity for those interested in maritime flag state policy and international conventions.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist the Department, as appropriate and instructed, in all matters related to the Maritime Affairs team.
  • Assist in IMO related work, through attendance, review of documents, preparation of internal briefing and debriefing notes and draft relevant interventions.
  • Attend and contribute towards industry-based correspondence and working groups.
  • Conduct relevant research in dealing with matters of current maritime interest, statistics, data analysis and previous IMO documents and records.
  • Maintain multiple data bases of meeting records, submissions, reports, and related documents.
  • Organise and assist in hosting multi organisational and inter departmental meetings and webinars.
  • Represent the department where required at sub-committee IMO meeting with integrity, discretion, accuracy, and meticulous attention to detail. Possess thoroughness and good attention to detail in all responsibilities, ensuring accuracy in delivery and implementation.

Experience Required:

  • Ideally hold or have held a recognised Senior Certificate of Competency as Master Mariner or Chief Engineer Officer
  • Bachelor’s or master’s Degree in an appropriate maritime discipline (example: Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ship Science, Maritime Science)
  • Seagoing experience at a senior level (Preferably as Master/Chief Engineer and as a minimum, Chief Officer/Second Engineer Officer)
  • Survey experience with a recognised Classification Society or flag State Administration (Desirable)
  • Possess an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Flag State, or
    Have experience in attending IMO meetings and/or other maritime industry meetings held by industry stakeholders
