This is a contract role for a Licensed Chief Engineer aboard a US-flagged tuna purse seiner operating in the Pacific. The Licensed Chief Engineer will be responsible for performing daily inspections and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical systems on board the fishing vessel. They will ensure the safe and efficient operation of all machinery and equipment, and will be responsible for overseeing repairs and troubleshooting any issues that arise.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering team in maintaining and operating vessel machinery.
  • Oversee maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of EMD engines, Falk gearboxes, Marco hydraulics, Caterpillar gensets, screw-type compressors, and brine freezing systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maritime regulations.
  • Collaborate with other officers to optimize vessel performance.

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid USCG Licensed Chief Engineer certificate (minimum 5,000)
  • At least 3 years of experience working with the specified equipment
  • Strong knowledge of marine engineering systems and equipment
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Ability to work well in a team and in a fast-paced environment
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of marine engineering principles


Compensation:

Competitive salary with bonuses based on catch performance

Status: 1099 (independent contractor)
