Port Agency Manager – Permanent – Kent – Competitive salary & benefits
This is an excellent opportunity to join a reputable shipping agency based in North Kent.
The role is hybrid and can be based out of either Dartford or Sheerness. Standard core business hours but evenings/weekends/bank holidays on call coverage on a fair and rotational basis across the team
The role holder will be responsible for the management of the port agency department providing a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on-call service to our Principals to ensure the safe and smooth turnaround of all appointed vessels within the jurisdiction of the port office which includes the Thames, the Medway, Sheerness, Dover, Felixstowe and the East Anglia region. There will be regular travel expected to all ports in the region.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure that customer service and customer satisfaction is the top priority for the department.
- Accountable for service level performance across all functions of the department
- The Port Manager is responsible for the overall leadership of the department, setting its strategic direction, delivering the agreed business results and meeting customer and stakeholder expectations.
- Lead the department by example, motivating, empowering and delegating in a transparent manner to create a culture of operational excellence in a positive and rewarding working environment.
- Ensure there is coverage for out of office hours (evening, weekends, public holidays and alike) by effectively planning and managing a team roster.
- Responsible for the P&L of the department by maximising revenue streams and cash flow and aggressively managing costs and overheads.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with ports, terminals, suppliers, government departments and agencies, local authorities and other stakeholders.
Experience required:
- Excellent working knowledge of port operations, shipping and port agency
- Prior port agency department management experience, especially with tankers, cruise ships and RoRo / break bulk / project cargoes
- Maritime or ICS shipping qualification (or willing to work towards) desirable
- Communication and leadership capacities with a hands-on attitude
- An effective planner with excellent time management skills; the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced pressured environment
- Experience of managing a small team and developing talent for the future
- Hold a full UK drivers license
