Marine Pilot - Jebel Ali Port

Berthing & un-berthing of vessels within Jebel Ali Port , Port Rashid , Dubai Dry Docks & DMC as well as perform any other supervisory functions as instructed by Harbor Master or Assistant Harbormaster to ensure smooth operations and effective handling of vessels within in the Port limits.

1. Piloting of vessels on a rotating shift basis, boards, pilots, berths, un berths vessels of all shapes and sizes through pilotage by providing services in the capacity of a licensed pilot.
2. To undertake pilot-age, berthing and un berthing operations with or without the aid of tugs or mooring boats.
3. To advise Ships Master and officers from the time of boarding until ship is securely moored at the jetty, and from the time of boarding the jetty till the ship is on safe course from all hazards during outward bound.
4. Direct all activities of tugs and mooring launches assigned while maneuvering and berthing and un berthing of ships, also advise ships master on maneuvers to recover lost anchors.
5. To document data into Pilots log books, service forms and other pilotage records, prepare and present reports on ship deficiencies for Harbor Master and Ship Masters review.
6. Inspect ships if require before commencing pilot age to ascertain whether they are properly equipped and manned to permit safe handling and turn around at the Jebel Ali Port.
7. To act as DP World representative to safeguard all facilities and act as a liaison between Ship’s Master and Port Authority while on board
8. To act as a port controller when required, supervise the control room staff , monitor operations of various radio and signaling systems and communicate directly with ships , crafts or other stations.
9. Observe port operations, record keeping dispatch of pilots, tugs, mooring, crews etc and avoid delays to shipping.
10. To frequently visit all jetties where ships are moored during inclement weather and make certain safe berths are maintained, assist in conservancy work, and ensure all functions are ready for receiving ships alongside.
11. In an emergency, initiate agreed emergency procedures, direct movements of all available crafts, notify the Harbor Master of all emergencies thereby acting in the best interest of the port at all times,
12. To carry out Pilot-age duties within the adjacent Dubai Dry –dock complex that offers repairs facilities to all vessels up to 6000,000 tons D.W.T and above.
13. Advising ships master regarding local ports, customs and health regulation and enforce port authority rules and regulations in consultation with the Harbor Master.

Requiremets: 

Essential:-

1. Proficiency in survival crafts and rescue boats
2. Certificate of Competency as master of a Foreign Ongoing Ship
3. Qualified Masters of a Foreign going Ship in Merchant Navy, under Merchant Shipping Act
4. Ship Handling Qualification

Desirable:-

1. Masters of Science in Maritime Affairs or World Maritime University.
2. Member of IALA

Experience:-

• Minimum 5 years Pilot experience as Marine Officer - Pilot Class 1.
• Handling of VLCC / UVLCC alongside loading terminals and jetties is essential.
